Quilt Club 2009 at
Gathering Fabric Quilt Shop

Take a trip down memory lane as we take a step from past projects and turn towards four new quilts in the year ahead. Memories are the theme as we invite you to join us in a guided study of how to incorporate your memories into quilts for you, your family and loved ones.

In four quarters, beginning in 2009, we will begin our journey with Family Tree quilts followed by T-Shirt quilts, Diary and Memory quilts and finish the year with Crazy quilts. All the quilts and companion projects will be unique to you... the quilter, as each is an individual and expressive project that will tell the story only you can tell. Our dedicated team of teachers and staff will help you achieve the desired outcome in size, style and coloration.

Quarterly, we will divide our study up with teachers, fabric collections, kits, books, patterns and accessories that seem perfect for our year of memory quilting. As in previous years, membership guarantees you special privileges and projects that are geared specifically to club members. With only a $20 membership fee you will be a valued member of Quilt Club 2009 at Gathering Fabric Quilt Shop. Quarterly kits will be priced according to content with special prices to club members. Discounts on the Benartex Family Tree fabric collection will be offered to club members. We love the blues, reds, greens and neutrals in this group. We saw it and loved it and are excited to share it with you.

Family Tree Quilting is our first quarter focus and Laurie Gustafson will be leading us through this project. Planning meetings will take place November 13, 2008 at 2pm and 6pm or December 7th at 2pm. With the holidays approaching, it will be the perfect time to plan your family tree quilt. Now is the time to gather your family information with dates, collect pictures and start organizing your materials with your computer. We'll show you how to do it. The first club meeting will take place, January 15th at 2p and 6p. Here, you'll learn how to make your family tree quilt with a working retreat to be offered in February 2009.

Important Dates to Remember:

Second quarter will be T-Shirt Quilts with Kathleen Owen using a pattern by Eleanor Burns. Make a T-shirt quilt for your graduate, extra long, using those great old T-shirts and flannel. Include photos and awards to journal the school years. We'll talk about fusibles and stabilizers for the T-Shirts and designs for the quilts. Quilt them on a frame easily with an all over stipple. The shirts will do all the work. Your kids will love being gifted with these quilts from their school T-shirts.

Third quarter is Diary Quilts.Working out of the new book by Mimi Dietrich, A Quilter's Diary Written in Stitches, we'll patch our way through meaningful blocks that tell a story. Use charms and momento's to embellish. Include all those wonderful little things that are truly meaningful to your special person. Make it for you, your mom or dad, special grandparent or friend. I'll share with you the quilt shown by Marie Osmond that she did for her mother, including a love letter from her father and strand of pearls. Susan and Carolyn will work you through the third quarter. We'll have kits, books and patterns for you to follow.

Fourth quarter is Crazy Quilts. Lynn, Desa and our embroidery girls along with Mo and Kathy will take us through crazy quilts. A true Victorian art, these crazy quilts with delight you. Share your old crazy quilts and make a small crazy quilted project in a picture frame or hen pin cushion. There are some cute projects out there perfect for crazy quilting. It will be a fun study with great history and stories and show and tells.
