Saturday Sampler 2009: Victory Quilt
November Block: Silent Star
Dear Victory Quilters, Welcome to our 2009 Saturday Sampler, Victory Quilts by Eleanor Burns and Quilt In A Day. Please join us for kick off day, Saturday, January 3rd from 9a-5p. We will be distributing block one starting at 9am. The first block is Contrary Wife found on page 90 of your book. This is a simple block to start out with and especially fun in the bright palette we will be working from all year. We're adding black and whites to add a splash to our quilts. The setting can be found on page 12, straight setting for 12 blocks with ribbon border. Our blocks are 12 inches finished. If you wish to add more blocks or change the setting, by all means, do so. We love to see you mix it up and add your own flare. Finishing kits using the Kona White Cotton will be available all year for $29.99. This is our white for the quilt. Ribbon borders will come a bit later when we add more color to our palette. Come dressed in 1940's attire and wear your commemorative QIAD 30 year pin. Prizes awarded for best costumes and best spirit. Ready for a new challenge? Make all the blocks out of your sampler book in the six inch size using Civil War or Reproduction fabric. At the end of 2009, we will award all quilters who complete this challenge with a gift card at Gathering Fabric Quilt Shop. Idea: Make a 12 inch block out of your stash or Christmas fabric for a second quilt at the end of the year. Practice in a second palette before you make your bright one. Learning is easy on a practice block and makes you a more skilled quilter. Remember to confirm your email addresses as this is important for our communication throughout the year.
